Comments
Opening hours were from 7am to 8pm.
Overall, there’s a lack of equipment – like a squat rack, barbells or heavier dumbbells. The heaviest dumbbell was 24 lbs/11 kgs!?
Treadmills were worn out and loud when somebody used them.
You’re not able to perform full range pull-ups/chin-ups because the ceiling is simply too low.

Based on the hotel gym, would you stay at this hotel next time you’re in the area?
No.

Comments
The hotel gym is open 24/7.
The equipment was a little old and run down and the treadmill was very loud/creaky. However, everything is functional and I was still able to get a great workout in!
There’s no squat rack, no bench and other than the leg extension, there was no other lower body equipment. I was happy to see the lat pull down, but wish they had other attachments available.
Disinfectant spray is available.

Based on the hotel gym, would you stay at this hotel next time you’re in the area?
No. It’s a holiday resort and the hotel gym seems kind of like an afterthought.

You’re on holiday, need a workout and find this little gem. It has everything you need for a week away, as long as you bring your imagination too. For an instructor of 10 years, there’s more than enough here to program more than a full week of workouts. With a sandy beach just 50yds away, there is nothing else you need…at all.

Sure, there’s not much of each bit of kit, but there’s enough for the amount that it gets used. I liked the selection of dumbbells and that they have a multigym machine as well as a treadmill.

If you can’t make something of all the available equipment, you shouldn’t be allowed in a hotel gym.

Opening hours are from 8am to 8pm.

Based on the hotel gym, would you stay at this hotel next time you’re in the area?
Yes! I was really impressed with this hotel gym – especially as there’re well stocked globo and cross-fit gyms nearby too.

Comments
A word to sum up this hotel gym would be “dated”.

To summarize the strengths of this gym, it’s very accessible with opening times from 8am to 10pm. You collect a key from the reception which gives you access. As you enter, you feel the coolness from the air conditioning which is very welcoming!

It seemed clean and didn’t smell.
There’s a water machine which had ice cold and cool water.

There’s a TV but also good internet connection, in case you want to put on your own music.

However, despite having a decent range of equipment available, there were three machines that were out of order (e.g., lat pull-downs) and a lot of the things that were in working order were very old and seemed quite risky to use (e.g., the vertical leg press felt like it was going to snap at any moment). The clips for some of the barbells were terrible as well, either not holding the plates on or being a nuisance to get off.

Based on the hotel gym, would you stay at this hotel next time you’re in the area?
No.

There’s a decent variety of machines and equipment but it would’ve been nice with a squat rack.

Comments
This hotel has a very small gym located in the basement next to the hotel spa.

The gym is cleaned daily and is equipped with cleaning spray and tissue paper. Since it’s in the basement, there aren’t any windows and there’s only a little bit of natural light from the door. However, there’re plenty of lights, mirrors and good air conditioning.

There are two TVs in the gym. However, I was never able to find any music channels, just the news.

The hotel gym is open from 8am to 9pm.

In the 7 days I was here, I worked out 3 times in the gym and never saw another person in there. For a sunshine resort as this, I would expect this low usage. People come here for a holiday, not to workout.
However, there is just enough in here to maintain fitness while away for a week. Some low-weight dumbbells, a pull up/dip station, some stationary bikes and cable machines.
Sure, it’s not going to cater for the high-end athlete, but I suspect they’re not coming here, at least not to train.

Based on the hotel gym, would you stay at this hotel next time you’re in the area?
Yes.

Porto Platanias Beach Resort & Spa

Equipment
In terms of cardio equipment, there are three treadmills, a pair of spinning bikes, cross trainers and rowing machines.
There’s a fair selection of dumbbells going up till 30kg. There’s a handful of adjustable workout benches but they’re all rather wobbly and the padding somewhat worn out.
As for weight-based machines, there’re two different cable machines with a nice selection of handles as well as the “usual” machines such as the leg press, leg extension and lateral pull machines.

Does the hotel gym offer complementary towels? No.
Does the hotel gym offer complementary water? Yes.

Comments
It might be because I used the hotel gym outside the spa’s opening hours, but there were no towels inside the actual gym. You can obviously bring one from your room but it’s not super convenient. There’re paper towels for cleaning of cardio equipment or workout benches.

The hotel gym is open 24/7 – you just need your room card to access it.

There’s AC installed but it seems to be connected to the rest of the spa area. As a result, there’s no control panel visible in the actual hotel gym.

Based on the hotel gym, would you stay at this hotel next time you’re in the area?
Although a little worn-out in some areas, this is surely a great hotel gym. The hotel itself is somewhat pricey but if I’m willing to pay the price, this could easily be my choice!
