Accessories include exercise mats and an exercise ball.

The hotel gym opens at 6:30am and close at 8pm – if I remember correctly – which is quite disappointing.
The mirrors do not go all the way to the floor.
Disinfectant only available as a spray, no wipes to distribute.

No, the opening hours of the hotel gym are inconvenient – and since I’m a streak runner, I’d prefer running outside or chose a hotel with a hotel gym that offers a larger selection of equipment.

They have kettlebells and dumbbells (up to 66 lbs/30 kgs) and there’re three benches – an adjustable one, a decline version and a straight back version.
There’s a multi-gym in the middle of the room allowing for lat pull-downs, leg extensions and chest/shoulder presses, for example.
 
As for cardio equipment, there’re two treadmills, three cross-trainers, a rowing machine, two stationary bikes and a spinning-like bike.
 
Accessories, include exercise balls, exercise mats, a foam roller, a medicine balls and a step bench.

Does the hotel gym offer complimentary water? Yes.
 
Comments
The gym is part of the spa facility in the hotel but is free to use if you’re a resident.
Some of the pin-operated machines are dual purpose, so every muscle group can be exercised to some extent.

It was very clean and well maintained. The equipment was pretty standard, but it was enough to get in a quick workout.

Not sure. I’d probably stay at the hotel again more for the proximity to the train station than the hotel gym.

There’s a multi-gym machine making it possible to do seated rows as well as lat pull-downs and there’s also a single cable option with a nice selection of attachments.
Finally, there’s a Smith machine with a fair range of weight plates.
 
Cardio equipment covers a stationary bike, a treadmill and a cross-trainer. However, there’s also a handful of outdoor spinning bikes.

Does the hotel gym offer complimentary water? Yes.

Equipment was in very good condition.
I liked that they had a Smith Machine for squats and benching.

B’Mine

Dumbbells go up to 50 lbs/22 kgs and there’s a pair of adjustable benches as well.
Kettlebells go from 9 to 53 lbs/4 to 24 kgs.
There’s a TechnoGym kinesis cable machine and a squat rack/bench press setup. However, with the plates available, the total weight of the barbell is approximately 88 lbs/40 kgs.
 
As for cardio equipment, there’s a curved treadmill, a regular treadmill, two rowing machines, two cross-trainers and two stationary Peloton-like bikes although from TechnoGym.
 
Accessories include a handful of exercise balls and exercise mats, foam rollers, jumping ropes, medicine balls, slam balls and yoga blocks.
 
Does the hotel gym offer complimentary towels? Yes.
Does the hotel gym offer complimentary water? Yes.

The hotel gym is located on the 1st floor and open 24/7 with your room card.
 
The first time I used the hotel gym, limited lighting was turned on. I didn’t succeed in finding any switches. However, after calling the reception from the phone available at the hotel gym, a guy fixed it and proper lighting was on after a few minutes.
 
I thought it was pretty cool that there’s a huge fridge in the center of the hotel gym which was loaded with bottles of complimentary water.
 
Everything appeared clean, well-maintained and in perfect condition.
 
It would’ve been nice if there’d been more weight plates for the barbell/squat rack and maybe dumbbells up to 66-77 lbs/30-35 kgs. Ideally, it’d have been nice if there’d been a dual cable machine as well, since the TechnoGym kinesis machine doesn’t quite offer the same range of motion.
 
Based on the hotel gym, would you stay at this hotel next time you’re in the area?
Hell yeah! Although it’s not perfect, it’s surely one of the best hotel gyms I’ve ever used – definitively in my Top 5!

Van der Valk Hotel

There’s a fair selection of dumbbells – up to 50 lbs/22 kgs – and two adjustable benches to work with – although no decline option.
There’s also a barbell set up allowing you to do anything from squats and bench presses to deadlifts, etc.
There’s also a nice selection of pin-operated machines – e.g. seated leg-presses, chest/rear del flys, ab crunches and biceps curls.
There’s even a cable machine – but a lot of handles are missing.
 
As for cardio, there’s a stationary bike, a treadmill and a cross-trainer.

Although towels not ideal for wiping away sweat dripping from your face, at least there’re paper towels and sanitizer sprays available for the equipment.
 
The hotel gym itself is spacious and everything appears clean and well-maintained.
 
According to the sing on the door leading to the hotel gym, the opening hours are from 8am to 9 or 10pm. However, when checking at the reception, I was informed that it didn’t open until 9am due to cleaning. It seems to be related to COVID 19 issues. However, nobody was wearing any masks and there weren’t any other visible COVID 19 restrictions. Regardless, opening hours need to be much more flexible – ideally, they should be 24/7 – period.
 
With a barbell setup allowing for both squats, bench presses and deadlifts, the cable machine as well as a fair selection of dumbbells and cardio equipment, I didn’t really lack any equipment. That being said, the cable machine only had D shaped handles.
 
Based on the hotel gym, would you stay at this hotel next time you’re in the area?
Not sure! The hotel gym itself is actually quite well equipped – but the inflexible opening hours is a pain in the ass, to be honest.

If you’re in the mood for cardio, there’s a treadmill and two Peloton bikes.
 
There’s also an exercise ball and a back extension bench.

The hotel gym appears to be open 24/7 and is conveniently accessible via your room card.
 
The facility appears clean and equipment well-maintained, very likely brand new!
 
It’s pretty cool that they had Peloton bikes, but it was a shame there weren’t any exercise mats and there could’ve been more handles for the cable machine instead of just a pair of D handles and the long bar.
 
Laidback music was playing from a pair of Bose speakers. Although the music wasn’t loud or obnoxious, I didn’t find anywhere to change it, turn it off or adjust the volume.
 
Based on the hotel gym, would you stay at this hotel next time you’re in the area?
Not sure! The hotel gym was fairly well equipped, but if I were to stay in the area for more then a night, I might check for other/better options.

There’s everything you need in terms of weight-based equipment! They have barbells and dumbbells (9 to 100 lbs/4 to 44 kgs), a lot of different machines and there’s also an entire area dedicated to TRX training.
 
The cardio section covers loads of treadmills, cross-trainers, stationary bikes and even rowing machines.

This hotel gym is actually a public gym (“Holmes Place”), but when you stay at the hotel, you get free access to the hotel gym, sauna and pool.
 
As this is a public gym as well, it’s one of the largest hotel gyms I’ve ever seen. It wasn’t busy on the day I visited it.
 
I was very happy with the range of available equipment, etc. It’s good quality.
The cleanliness/house-keeping level is also very good.

Yes, this is one of the best hotel gyms I’ve ever seen – we’ll surely return when we are in Düsseldorf!

There’re 3,5 sets of dumbbells – the heaviest set being 5 kg.

With the total space available being around 25 square meters, everything appears rather cramped together. The bike is positioned directly in the corner behind the door, the cross trainer next to it in the opposite corner and the treadmill along the wall.
Due to the current COVID-19 situation, only one person at a time was allowed to use the facility. I can only imagine how “heavy” the air will be if there’re three people sweating on the cardio equipment.
 
If you’re looking for a weight-based workout, you’re likely to be hugely disappointed: There’re 3,5 sets of dumbbells with the heaviest set being 5 kg. There’s no bench or yoga mats so any workout has to be done standing or lying on the (potentially) dirty floor.
 
Although there’s a sign stating something else, there were never complimentary water available during the visits I made to the gym.
 
On a positive note, the cardio equipment available is from Life Fitness allowing you to do a proper cardio workout without worrying if everything is going to fall apart halfway.
 
Opening hours are from 7am to 10pm – access is provide via your room key.
